=============================================================================== 003-techart.txt =============================================================================== This is Techart. ---------------------- There is a place where technology meets form and functionality and becomes art. You know what I'm talking about. That five lines of code which creates something magical on-screen... That warm fuzzy feeling of ASCII art in a terminal... The rush of endorphins when the pixels on a screen evoke a real emotional reaction... The awe you experience when gazing out on a game-world sunrise more glorious than exists in our natural reality (if such a thing as natural reality even a thing any more)... This is the new art, a new expression, the "new school" coming in hot. Tech is both the dark dystopian future we see portrayed in the media and at the same time, it is an unearthly, beautiful form different and removed from anything which has existed before. It is new. The mainstream doesn't see this (yet), and their narrative will only ever promote the negative while the current system of monetary incentives in place makes this more profitable - making people afraid of something is not only easy, it also prevents them benefiting from it, and prevents those trapped in constructs of fear from escaping. But it is possible to escape from fear into beauty with technology. Every emotion you have ever experienced looking at pixels on a screen proves this beyond doubt. Techart has evolved this far naturally by simply being functioning form of aesthetic attractiveness, diverse and without agenda, touching the lives of those who see the beauty of it from their inner core. It can be life altering, like a narcotic. It can be addictive, like a narcotic. It's a fetish. A way of thinking. A way of seeing. Perhaps even a kink. Many are not ready to accept the validity of techart - but it has always been the case that when a new medium stomps onto the block (right through the practising "educated" understanding of the incumbent movements) it is rejected or ignored by those who have the most to lose from change. The musical establishment resisted Debussy... and yet here we are. The blind and ignorant comfortable world always strives to debunk "the new thing" as a fad or less valid form of expression to the current norm, forgetting the simple fact; no permission is required to be an artist. Techart didn't require anyone's permission, or conscious design to exist, or to evolve... and yet it does, and it has. Art is an embodiment of the state and atmospherics of the time and artists from which it is created. A product of environment, agenda and experience. It has never had a consistent rule book, it has no boundaries (other than false constructs built on the fragilities of the lowest common denominators of society). The natural evolution of the beauty of art cannot be constrained to today's norms and cannot be limited to a description of medium or style and then logged in a textbook somewhere for the elite to memorise. The very act of attempting to do this is absurd to the point of parody. The four examples mentioned in the introduction to this text acutely demonstrate a non-precise medium - often constructed from temporary aesthetic alliances of multiple genres, forms and formats. Techart is alive. It's subversive. It's insidious... and here now in 2019 it is everywhere. All around us is the art of the digital. It sits in the UX design of our smart phones, on our laptop screens, in the all the multimedia presentations we imbibe, and it is seeping ever deeper into popular culture - regardless of how the establishment feel about it doing so. It permeates our daily lives in a million ways the mainstream simply ignore or do not yet recognise. It is a contemporary, almost memetic, symbolism still in the early stages of forming... it is the new myths. The new stories. Most importantly... it is good. It brings, as all true art should, joy through feeling. Real emotions in a world of plastic. If you see it, share it. Help it to grow. Send this signal. Let the world know. --- Tengushee 2019 =============================================================================== EOF
