Part 2, The Labyrinth --------------------------------------------------- Buckle up, my fearless comrades of the unconventional, for I have a tale to share that would make even the most seasoned adventurers question their grip on reality. Picture this: a moonlit evening, drenched in alcohol and teetering on the brink of questionable decision-making. It was during one such night that my trusty companion and I embarked on a pilgrimage to pay our respects to the great Lord Byron. Little did we know that this boozy escapade would lead us down a rabbit hole into a world inhabited by creatures of enchantment and tomfoolery. With spirits high and our glasses even higher, we stumbled our way to the resting place of the legendary poet. It seemed like an ordinary graveyard, the kind that holds the hallowed remains of the deceased. Little did we know that this nocturnal journey would become a treacherous expedition into the realm of fae folk. As we wandered further into the cemetery, our laughter echoing among the tombstones, it became apparent that something was amiss. The air crackled with an otherworldly energy, and a spine-tingling sensation made us question if our beverage choices had been more potent than we had anticipated. It was at that moment, in a haze of inebriation and wonder, that we realized we had stumbled into a faerie place. For hours, my friend and I meandered through the labyrinthine paths of the graveyard, never catching a glimpse of the elusive fae but feeling their presence as if they were teasing us from the shadows. Fear began to creep into our veins in a way that no amount of substances had ever managed to achieve. We were trapped in a whimsical nightmare, the walls of the labyrinth closing in around us like the hangover after an all-night bender. As dawn broke and the first rays of light pierced the sky, a palpable sense of relief washed over us. We had survived the night in the Fae's Labyrinth, a twisted trap of their mischievous making. With each step towards freedom, I couldn't help but reflect on the absurdity of it all. The fae had toyed with us, their invisible hands guiding our drunken stumble through their enchanted playground. And so, dear readers, as the sun rose in all its glory, illuminating our escape from the Fae's Labyrinth, I made a vow. I would learn the art of entrapment, of weaving mazes and ensnaring the unwary in worlds of bewitchment. For if the fae could intoxicate our minds with their whimsy, then surely I, the master of unconventional exploits, could delve into their realm and leave them spellbound in return. So, raise your glasses to the night that redefined our understanding of fae magic. And know that as I embark on this new journey, armed with my signature drug-infused wisdom, the world of the fae will never be the same again. --- Amy Agent of Eris =============================================================================== Subculture? ----------- Anyone who grew up in the 1990s and was part of the Internet as it grew will recognise one or all of these and probably have been involved in all of them. The 1990s witnessed the emergence of several distinct subcultures, each with its own digital presence on the early internet. These subcultures embraced various aspects of technology, shaping their identities and interactions online. Let’s explore some of the prominent subcultures of the 1990s and their relationship with technology: Cyberpunk: The cyberpunk subculture was heavily influenced by science fiction and dystopian themes. It embraced the idea of a high-tech, low-life society. Online forums and early internet communities provided cyberpunks with platforms to discuss cybernetics, virtual reality, hacking, and the impact of technology on society. While the subculture itself did not die out, its influence gradually merged with broader science fiction and hacker communities. Rave and Electronic Music: The rave subculture gained significant popularity during the 1990s, with a focus on electronic music, dance, and a sense of unity. The internet allowed ravers to share information about upcoming events, DJs, and music releases. Online message boards and chat rooms facilitated the exchange of mixtapes and the creation of virtual communities centered around the rave scene. As the decade progressed, the rave subculture evolved and diversified, giving rise to various electronic music genres and festival culture. Grunge: The grunge subculture emerged from the alternative rock scene, characterized by a rejection of mainstream culture and an embrace of a DIY ethos. While the early internet played a relatively minor role in the grunge movement, alternative music websites and forums provided spaces for fans to discuss bands, share bootlegs, and connect with like-minded individuals. The grunge subculture waned in the late 1990s following the death of prominent musicians and a shift in popular music trends. Goth: The goth subculture found a strong presence on the early internet, where it thrived in online communities and bulletin boards. Goths used technology to connect with others who shared an interest in dark aesthetics, music, literature, and fashion. The internet allowed goths to transcend geographical boundaries and form international networks, fostering a sense of belonging. While the goth subculture did not entirely die out, its prominence and visibility diminished in the 2000s. Skater and Surfer: Skater and surfer subcultures, while distinct, often overlapped and shared similar attitudes and interests. While these subcultures were more rooted in physical activities, the early internet provided a means for skaters and surfers to connect and share videos, photos, and tips. Online skateboarding and surfing communities allowed enthusiasts to discuss techniques, equipment, and upcoming events. These subcultures continue to thrive today, both online and offline. It’s important to note that subcultures are dynamic, and their influence often transcends specific time periods. While some subcultures experienced a decline in visibility, their influence can still be seen in subsequent cultural movements and niche communities. Additionally, as the digital landscape evolved, new subcultures emerged, creating spaces for individuals who may have felt culturally displaced after the decline of previous movements --- Rev1 =============================================================================== So they convinced you... ------------------------ So they convinced you to buy a house through “normality” and peer pressure leverage, you get on the ladder by dropping all your savings, now they are fucking you while you are tied down and can’t escape from your debt/loan obligations as the property market crash means your “purchase” is worth less while at the same time costing you more in every real term. Good work. You’ve be absolutely owned. These banks and businesses operating in such sectors will never have your best interests at heart, and you taking their advice (which they have injected into western culture, despite the obvious nonsense some of it is under any scrutiny) is literally just handing over your shit to them while they cackle. It’s not like people didn’t try to warn you, you just called these people kooks. --- Rev1 =============================================================================== Got something to say to the underground?
